AMDRS condemns firing on Kang chariot

All Manipur Dharma Raksha Samiti (AMDRS) has condemned unknown persons firing on the chariot being prepared for the Rath Yatra (Kang) festival at Palace Compound on July 5 and termed the same as an attack on Hindu community.
In a release, AMDRS publicity secretary Rabendra Meitei informed that the ceremony of 'Konung Kang' was introduced during the reign of Maharaj Gambhir Singh in 1832 AD and clarified that it is not a Brahmin festival but a ritual practice.
Pointing out that Rath Yatra is an annual event performed across the world, he said that the Manipuri Hindu/Vaishnab too performs the ritual annually.
Further stating that the ritual related procession for Rath Yatra/Konung Kang to seek the almighty's blessing for restoring peace and normalcy in the state has been approved by Sri Sri Govindajee Temple Board president (chief minister) N Biren Singh and vice president (Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker) Th Satyabrata, he appealed to authorities concerned to take actions against those challenging collective endeavour for peace, inciting fear, and trying of suppress Hindu religion.
The secretary explained that Manipur is a part of secular state 'India' whose constitution allows every citizen to embrace/practice any religion of their choice.
If such anti-Hindu acts continue then memorandum will be submitted to President and Ministry of Home Affairs to protect minority Manipuri Hindus in the state,
Rabendra maintained.
