Protest staged against rape of minor girl

The Zo Women Movement in collaboration with various students' organisations organised a sit-in-protest at Nute Bazar, Churachandpur on Friday against atrocities and crimes perpetrated against women including rape of a minor girl recently.
Cordilia Charitable Society for Destitute Women and Children president Mary Jones and other prominent women leaders like Rose Ngaihte, Jessica Mawi and Ngaipi spoke at the protest and led the protestors in chanting slogans against gender-based crimes.
The Zo Women Movement was formed in May, 2023 after the eruption of violence between the Meeteis and the Kuki-Zo communities with the main objective of exposing perpetrators of crimes against women and children, supporting causes of women victims of sexual violence and harassment, and initiating necessary remedial measures.
According to record maintained by the Churachandpur district hospital, there were six rape cases in May, 2024, two in 2021 and 11 in 2022 while there were two rape cases in 2023.One glaring instance was the rape incident, which took place on May 30, 2024 at a spot between Monzang village and K Munnuam village.
Meanwhile, Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights (KWOHR) submitted a memorandum to DC Churachandpur and demanded arrest of culprits involved in the May 30 rape incident.
