Malem Thongam jailed, YOM trio arrested

Transgender activist Malem Thongam, who had declared to take 'extreme' step in case the government does not initiate punitive measures against the 10 Kuki MLAs, has been remanded to judicial custody.
Moreover, three members of Youth of Manipur (YOM), who went on live on social media on Saturday evening regarding the arrest of Malem Thongam, were also arrested by police on the charge of inciting violence against the police and the government, and remanded to police custody till October 10.Malem Thongam was arrested by a team of Porompat police station from Soibam Leikai on Saturday morning and produced at the court of CJM Imphal East, which remanded him to judicial custody.
On the other hand, three members of YOM namely Lourembam Rambo alias Shinthangamba (26), son of L Chandra Singh of Langthabal Kunja Mayai Leikai, Maisnam Robinson (21) alias Tha wanjao, son of Robindro of Kangmong Meisnam Leikai and Tekcham Vishal (24) alias Athoiba, son of late Ghambir Singh of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai, were arrested on Sunday morning.
Condemning the arrest of Malem Thongam, YOM members took out a protest march from Singjamei towards the high security zone of Babupara on Saturday and shared live video on Facebook.
The three were rounded up from the house of YOM chairman Lourembam Rambo at Langthabal Kunja Mayai Leikai.
A case has been registered in this regard at Imphal police station and after producing the trio before the Imphal West duty magistrate and subsequently remanded to police custody for five days.
Meanwhile, enraged over the arrest of YOM members, families and locals protested in front of Imphal police station demanding unconditional release of the trio.
