Thoubal, July 05 2024:
The JAC formed in connection with the death of KIM Educational Society founder Thokchom Ibomcha of Khangabok has suspended its agitation for the time being after assurance from the state government to honour its demands.
Subsequently, the body of Th Ibomcha was claimed by his family and the last rites performed on Friday.
Speaking to media persons, JAC convener Takhelmayum Tomba Meitei explained that they suspended the agitation after chief minister N Biren gave the assurance to arrest the culprits involved and punish them as per law during a meeting held at the latter's bungalow on Thursday.
Tomba cautioned that if the said assurance is not translated into action within 10 days, they would resort to more intense agitation.
The convenor also asserted that the JAC is not convinced with the explanation by an armed group that Ibomcha died due to BP stroke as could be comprehended from numerous injury marks on his body, which imply that he was killed after torture for 10 days.
Hence, the authority concerned should befittingly punish the cadre of the armed group involved in the incident, he further demanded.
Meanwhile, the post mortem of Th Ibomcha was conducted at JNIMS Morgue on Friday, after which, the JAC, locality members, clubs and meira paibi activists took his body to Khangabok for the last rites.
On the way to Khangabok, numerous students, teachers and public lined up along the NH 102 and paid floral tributes to his body and chanted slogans demanding punishment of the killers.
Th Ibomcha was abducted by some people claiming to be members of armed group on June 18 but found dead on July 29 .
