Union budget anti-poor, says Sotinkumar

Imphal, February 05 2025: All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Manipur general secretary Laishram Sotinkumar has remarked that it would be better to burn the union budget which is of no benefit to the poor.

Speaking at the nationwide protest meeting against the alleged anti-labour policy of NDA government held at Loktak Hall of Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday, Sotinkumar expressed resentment that the President made no mention about Manipur's situation in her speech in the Parliament.

In addition, the union budget is an anti-people and anti-labour as it failed to mention anything beneficial for the poor sections of the society.

As such, it would be better to burn the budget into ashes, he remarked.

Sotinkumar continued that the BJP government which came to power in 2014 introduced many new economic policies but added more distress to the workers and labourers, who are the driving force of the economy.

It is also unfortunate that no budgetary allocation was made for the poor sections of the country, and further for those suffering in Manipur.

Instead, the focus is on benefitting the corporates which is highly condemnable.

This indicates that the Indian government is only thinking about capitalists and the budget prepared in the interests of the rich, he said.

After the meeting, members of AITUC came out on Kanglapat main road and set fire to the union budget.

They also shouted slogans condemning the anti-labour, anti-scheme workers but pro-rich budget.
