70 people rescued from flood-hit areas

Imphal, July 03 2024:
On Tuesday morning, a team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) led by AK Jotin rescued 22 members of four families including three dogs, who were trapped in their homes submerged due to flood in Taret Khul Thangjam Leikai Late Tuesday night, the Imphal River breached its bank at Taret Khun Thangjam Leikai under Imphal East district, causing flood in the area.
Upon receiving reports that some family members are trapped, the SDRF team arrived around 4:30 am on Wednesday.
Led by AK Jotin and comprising eight personnel, the team rescued 22 people, including three dogs from four families.
Among the rescued was a 71-year-old individual.
The SDRF team also rescued several people stranded in flooded residential buildings at Kongpal Chanam Leikai under Imphal East and Singjamei Waikhom Leikai and Oinam Thingel under Imphal West district.
Meanwhile, a fire service team participated in rescuing individuals stuck in their flooded homes at Singjamei Oinam Thingel, Waikhom Leikai and Mayengbam Leikai from early morning.
They managed to rescue total of 50 people and distributed essential commodities to flood victims.
Additionally,- a team led by DIG Range-1 N Herojit, including Imphal West SP Ksh Shivakanta, assisted in evacuating the flood hit people to safer locations.
