ND&PS court awards 10 yrs RI to drug dealer

The Special Court (ND&PS), Manipur has sentenced one Khuplang Khongsai (55), who was arrested by a team of Narcotics & Affairs of Border (NAB) Police Station with drugs on October 20, 2022 to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 1 lakh.
During the hearing of the case conducted in the court of Special Court (ND&PS) judge Lisa Maibam on Monday, the prosecution submitted to the court that on October 20, 2022, the NAB PS team halted one Tata Xenon Pick Up (AS 23 BC-6076) coming in from Senapati while conducting a frisking-checking operation in Kanglatongbi area of Imphal-Dimapur route.
On checking the vehicle, the team arrested Khuplang Khongsai (65) s/o (L) Zilizan Khongsai of Molnom village, Ukhrul district with 3.048kg of brown sugar.
NAB PS registered a case and during the course of investigation conducted as per the guidelines of ND&PS Act, Khuplang was found guilty of the charges levelled against him by the court concerned under Section 21(C) of ND&PS Act.
The court observed that the prosecution has been able to provide proof/ evidence supporting the charges against the accused.
Apart from seizing the pickup truck and directing the IO to take up the requisite action on June 1, the sentence hearing was fixed on Monday.
During the sentence hearing, the court awarded convicted Khuplang Khongsai 10 years' rigorous imprisonment.
It also ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh, failing which he would have to stay in jail for three more months.
