76th Van Mahotsav kicks off in Kamjong

The 76th Van Mahotsav was inaugurated at the Kamjong district headquarters on July 1, with Chief Conservator of Forest, T-II and Nodal Officer, TRIFED, Government of Manipur, Gaithaolu Thaimei, as the chief guest.
Kamjong DC Rangnamei Rang Peter presided over the event, with Kamjong SP Ningshem Vashum as the guest of honor.
In her address, Thaimei noted that Kamjong's forests have vast potential for timber production and called for collective efforts in conserving natural resources.
She urged attendees to work collaboratively to protect these resources, ensuring a sustain-able future for generations to come.
The chief guest announced a week-long plantation drive across all ranges under the Kamjong Forest Division, encouraging community participation in the initiative aimed at fostering a greener Kamjong and Manipur.
On the occasion, Thaimei also engaged with members of SHGs from Kamjong and Tuyungbi, assuring them of continued support from the Forest Department.
The event was attended by various district-level officers, representatives from 8 Assam Rifles Chassad, the Border Security Forces, village chiefs, and members of the Van Dhan Vikas Kendras, as well as the Raizan and Kamjong Students' Union.
A ceremonial tree planting ceremony was also held around the town hall, with all dignitaries participating.
The plantation drive, themed "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, " will continue until July 7, 2025, focusing on roadside planting from Kamjong Forest Gate to the 8th Assam Rifle Gate, using tree guards made from plastic bottles to combat plastic pollution.
Earlier on June 21, the Kamjong district administration hosted the PM DAJGUA IEC campaign at Sadbhavna Mandap in Kasom Khullen village, along with neighboring villages Mawai and Nambashi Khullen.
Kasom Khullen headman Wungwung Shanglai delivered a welcome address, while Kasom Khullen SDC Orient Thansing RS provided insights into the PM DAJGUA initiative.
Various line departments participated in the campaign, setting up stalls.
As part of the outreach, the CAF&PD department distributed 10 ration card forms and provided 17 new gas connections under the UJWALA scheme, while 15 old age pension forms and 6 widow forms were issued by the District Social Welfare department.
A total of 15 cards under the PMGAY scheme, 29 ST certificates, and 22 domicile certificates were also distributed.
Meanwhile, the Medical Department attended to 52 individuals during the campaign.
