SHRI doctor awarded Visharad Degree

Shija Hospitals & Research Institute's director of medical services Dr Jugindra Sorokhaibam, has earned the distinction of being the first allopathic doctor from Manipur to receive the Visharad certification in music from the Bhatkande Sangit Vidyapith, Lucknow.
The award presented in February 2025 testifies his exceptional blend of medical expertise and artistic accomplishment.
According to a Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI) statement, Dr Jugindra underwent training under Dr Bachaspatimayum Bidyapati Sharma, faculty of Manipur University and son of (late) B Jayantakumar Sharma, a renowned Manipuri writer, lyricist, and composer of the state anthem, 'Sana Leibak Manipur' .

Dr Jugindra diligently attended the morning classes of this 5-year degree course and cleared all the exams, informed the statement, adding that Dr Jugindra's musical achievement complements his distinguished medical career.
As the founding director of SHRI, Dr Jugindra pioneered laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery in Manipur and India.
His contributions have established SHRI as a leading healthcare institution.
He served as the National President of the Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI) from 2020 to 2022, led the Indian Medical Association (IMA) as President from 2022 to 2024 and is currently serving as president of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), Manipur State Chapter, and as national director of the AMASI Safe Laparoscopic Programme, which promotes safe surgical practices across India and neighbouring countries.
