Sit-in, meeting condemn police excesses

Denouncing the recent cases in state where people were unreasonably arrested by police including in front of their minor children, a sit-in protest under the banner 'Child Torture & State Actor' was organised by Thoubal Apunba Lup (TAL) at Thoubal Mela Ground community hall on Thursday.
During the protest, the agitators used placards with slogans such as 'we oppose police excesses', 'stop registering false cases', 'we condemn torture of minors by armed and unarmed forces', etc.
Speaking to media persons, one Soibam Sana Devi recalled the incident on Wednesday where a man was forcefully rounded up by police from Imphal Airport in front of his children.
Lamenting that the minors had to experience the ordeal, she called for avoiding such incident in the future.
Meanwhile, Heirok denizens strongly denounced harassment of the two school uniform wearing children of Totomsana Nongshaba when state police rounded up the latter near the Imphal International Airport.
A public meeting held at Heirok Keithel on Thursday denounced police excesses in the arrest of Totomsana.
The meeting adopted several resolutions including condemning the harassment of Totomsana's children and demanding punish of those involved in the incident.
It further resolved that all the consequences should be borne by those involved if any untoward incident happen to Totomsana.
While appealing to explain the wrongs of Totomsana, the meeting further stressed on the need to provide room for rectification.
If he is forcefully arrested by levelling false charges, then people of Heirok will target the nearest police station, the meeting resolved.
