COCOMI calls for boycott of Shah, office shutdown

Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has called for boycott of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and a two-day shutdown of all government offices effective from Wednesday.
Addressing media persons at its Lamphelpat office, here, on Tuesday, COCOMI coordinator Thokchom Somorendro said that the state government has failed to act on a resolution adopted in the November 18 meeting of NDA legislators to launch crackdown on Kuki militants within 7 days.
The state government had adopted a resolution for repeal of AFSPA and conduct mass operation' against Kuki militants within seven days.
However, the government has failed to act on its resolution within the stipulated time frame, he alleged.
The coordinator said that the state is in the grip of a proxy war orchestrated by the centre.
The COCOMI has therefore, decided to boycott Amit Shah as he has failed to resolve the crisis.
The Union Home minister will be boycotted till the crisis in the state resolved.
To register protest against the government's failure to act on the resolution, all offices of the state and central governments will be locked and shut down for two days from Wednesday, Somorendro declared while adding that offices related to essential services and educational institutions will be exempted from the purview of the shutdown.
The demands of COCOMI included a review of AFSPA which was recently re-imposed in areas under six police stations, identification and prosecution of those involved in the killing of three women and three children in Jiribam and declaring the Kuki outfits involved as a terrorists.
Somorendro also stated that the course of action to be undertaken by COCOMI, in collaboration with the public, will be announced in a couple of days.
