AMPYA destroys seized drugs, alcohol

Along with rounding up 70 individuals involved in drug trafficking and misusing drugs during the drive carried out in Kwakta area since July 1, All Meitei Pangal Youth Association (AMPYA) destroyed the seized drugs and alcohol before the media on Thursday.
Addressing media persons prior to disposing the seized items, AMPYA president Pukhrimayum Sadam said that in support of the state government"s "War on Drugs" campaign, ANJUMAN, which is the anti-drug cell of AMPYA, along with Jamiat-Ul-Ulemma carried out drive against drugs during which 70 people were apprehended, including 40 drug users, 20 who sell and abuse drugs and 10 drug dealers.
Drugs worth around Rs 3 lakh were seized during the drive which is underway, he said.
While AMPYA"s primary focus is education and sports, it has launched this initiative due to the rising number of youths using drugs, he said while adding that the drive has led to rounding up of individuals from various communities, not just Meetei Pangals.
All those detained have been counselled and returned to their families, with many also referred to drug rehabilitation centres with their families' consent.
Pukhrimayum Sadam also said that the drive to fight against drugs will continue and appealed to authority concerned and people of Kwakta and surrounding areas to support the drive.
