CM assures reconstruction of Maharaj Gambhir, Marjit palace in B'desh

Chief minister N Biren has assured United Committee Manipur (UCM) of reconstructing the Rajbaris of Maharaj Gambhir Singh in Sylhet and Maharaj Marjit at Moulvi Bazar in Bangladesh.
A 38-member team of UCM visited Bangladesh from May 10 to 20 and met Meitei diasporas who have settled there since the seven years' devastation.
A team of UCM led by its president submitted a memorandum to chief minister on Saturday..
The memorandum included demanding the government to reconstruct Rajbari of Maharaja Gambhir Singh in Sylhet, and Maharaja Marjit at Moulvi Bazar, Bangladesh.
It also demanded the government to construct a guest house and a statue of Maharaja Gambhir Singh Rajbari in Sylhet and a museum of Maharaja Marjit at Kamalganj, Moulvi Bazar, Bangladesh.
Maharaj Gambhir Singh has been respected as hero of the land for defeating Burmese force ending the infamous seven years' devastation.
As such, January 9 is observed as Chahi Taret Khuntakpa Ningsing Numit.
After thoroughly listening to the appeals of UCM, the chief minister assured of fulfilling their demands.
