Imphal, November 22 2024:
Indian Medical Association (IMA), Manipur state branch president Dr RK Lenin said that the protracted violence in the state is not only affecting healthcare workers and healthcare system but also creating hurdles for patients in consulting doctors and accessing hospitals for treatment.
Addressing media persons at IMA Manipur pffice, Lamphel on Friday, Dr Lenin said those in the medical profession have been maintaining neutrality despite sporadic incidents of violence in compliance with service ethics and with the hope that the crisis would subside on its own.
Accordingly, doctors of the state continue to attend to those injured in the conflict and visit relief camps to extend medical service to displaced people, he stated, while reminding that the doctors' duty is to help suffering people by giving proper medical care and if possible save lives.
However, the merciless killing of innocent children and women in the ongoing conflict has saddened the doctors as well, Dr Lenin said adding that innocent civilians must not be touched in any manner while pressing for certain demands.
According to Dr Lenin, IMA Manipur branch will write a letter to relevant central leaders and bureaucrats of the country and highlight medical and humanitarian issues plaguing the state.
