Imphal, August 22 2024:
Strongly condemning the rape and murder of a PG trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata on August 16, Communist Party of India (CPI) has urged the government to formulate and enact strict laws to ensure safety of medical personnel.
In a statement released to the press, CPI said that the Kolkata incident is one of the most heinous incidents and the culprit(s) involved deserve no place in the society.
The party has been urging the central government for a long time to take up some kind of protective measures for the safety of lady doctors and nurses at work places.
While some states have come up with specific laws in this regard, each and every state needs to take up the mantle to ensure safety of female medical practitioners while they are on duty.
On top of this, there have been incidents of families of patients vandalising hospital property and assaulting doctors and nurses.
However, the most unfortunate is the ruling government's apathy to these serious issues, it maintained and urged the Narendra Modi-led government to ensure and protect the rights and safety of female medical practitioners, while further demanding stringent punishment for all those involved in the rape and murder case of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
