Imphal, August 21 2024:
Maintaining that true peace cannot be achieved until all atrocities against women and children are halted and peace is established within'families, the United Women's Rights Defender (UWRD) has urged both the Central and state governments to recognise that peace cannot be attained with daily killings continuing in the society.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Wednesday, UWRD member Ningthoujam Bina remarked that despite India's claims of independence and peace, numerous crimes continue to occur.
She questioned what significant actions the Prime Minister and the chief minister of Manipur have taken regarding the ongoing crisis that has persisted for over a year in the state.
She also inquired about the steps taken against the perpetrators of the gang rape of a doctor in Kolkata, the rape and brutal murder of women during the Manipur crisis, and other gang rape incidents.
While condemning the assumption that the people of the state will remain silent when cases of crimes against women and children are handed over to the CBI, she urged that the authorities must reveal the truth and details of all such cases.
She emphasised that crimes against women can no longer be ignored and called for the government to implement a policy and program specifically focused on addressing these issues.
