Bamboo Day observed at Manipur University

Department of Forestry, Manipur University in collaboration with INTACH Manipur Chapter and Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS) observed World Bamboo Day 2024 under the theme "Next Generation Bamboo: Solution, Innovation and Design" .
According to a statement issued by AIMS, the event was attended by Department of Forestry faculty member Dr Khwairakpam Romesh and AIMS president Mayanglambam Khelendro as chief guest and president respectively.
Delivering the keynote address, another faculty member Dr Salam Dilip highlighted potentials of bamboo in addressing climate change, deforestation, and economic challenges.
He emphasised bamboo's ability to contribute to carbon sequestration and its use in sustainable innovations like construction, furniture, and textiles.
A bamboo plantation drive was also carried out at the varsity campus, with active participation of faculties and students apart from conduct of an extempore speech competition as part of the event followed by cash awards to the top three winners, namely, Lanrilu Dangmei, Korymayum Subhani, and Soraisam Hira, the statement added.
