Girl students trained to bridge 'digital gap'

Imphal, July 19 2025: Institution of Engineers (India), Manipur State Centre organised a one-day seminar on 'Digital electronics for girl students (Bridging the gender digital divide)' at the seminar hall of IEI Manipur State Centre in the Polytechnic campus in Takyel on Saturday.

NIELIT Imphal retired senior technical officer and Seminar convenor RK Naojin-glen Meitei observed that when the 160th anniversary of International Telecommunication Union was observed, a survey was conducted wherein it was found that women fared poorly when compared to knowledge of technology.

However, efforts are being taken up to mend this digital gap, he conveyed.

He continued that the seminar was held to instil confidence amongst young women right from high school level to learn about digital electronics, internet and AI fundamentals through training session.

"Digital is the name of signal and all devices built based on digital electronics are called digital devices," Naojinglen explained, stating that digital divide is the difference between proper usages of information technology devices.

"Since the introduction of Digital India programme, the initiative to make everything cashless and paperless is to further the development of digital devices.

However, there are still some gaps," he conveyed, adding that the seminar was held to mend the same.

Altogether 52 students took part in the seminar which was attended by Manipur Institute of Technology (MIT) principal Prof Dr N Basanta as chief guest; IEI Manipur State Centre chairman L Swamikanta as president; Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCl) senior deputy general manager Waribam Amarjeet and IEI Manipur State Centre honorary secretary Dr Th Subhaschandra as guests of honour.

During the technical session, NIELIT Imphal retired senior technical officer and Seminar convenor RK Naojinglen Meitei spoke on the topic of 'Understanding digital devices and Systems, and IIIT Imphal project manager and IEI Manipur SC joint honorary secretary Huirem Bharat Meitei on 'Cracking the digital world from transistor to AI' .
