Gunmen rob store owner of gold worth ₹3 crore

Imphal, April 18 2025:
Two armed persons robbed gold ornaments worth around Rs 3 crore from the owners of a jewellery store at Palace Compound under Porompat police station on Friday evening, police said.
The robbery occurred around 6:30 pm when Laipubam Dhanapati (47), and her husband Bachaspatimayum Rama, who run Dhanapati Jewellery opposite Kripadarshini Advanced Hospital, had just shut their shop for the day.
According to the police, the couple had placed a bag containing the ornaments in the backseat of their car and were about to drive when the two persons approached and held them at gunpoint.
The gunmen then fled with the bag of ornaments on a two-wheeler that had no registration plate.
A team from Porompat PS rushed to the scene upon receiving the report and launched a search operation, but the robbers could not be traced.
A case has been registered, and security has been tightened in response to the incident, police added.
