Imphal, November 17 2024:
The state government has ordered the suspension of internet and mobile data services in Jiribam and Pherzawl districts citing escalating tensions in the districts.
In notification issued by chief secretary on Sunday, the suspension, effective from 11:45 am Sunday, will be for two days.
The order affects various forms of internet and data services, including mobile data, VSATs, broadband (IILL & FTTH), and VPN services.
However, exceptions have been made for lease lines and FTTH connections specifically provided to government offices or cases where exemptions are granted by the state government, the order stated.
Mention may be made that the government had suspended internet services for two days in all the valley districts as well as Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts in the hills on Saturday after wide-spread protest erupted following the recovery of bodies of three out of six civilians abducted by Kuki militants in Jiribam district.
