Governor inaugurates IIIT hostel building, dining hall

Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Wednesday inaugurated the newly constructed building of boys' hostel and mess with dining hall of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Manipur, Mantripukhri.
The hostel has facilities like water filters, geysers, washing machines, metal-cots, reading tables and almirahs.
The hotel campus is wi-fi enabled with 24x7 power supply and DG backup.
It will accommodate around 120-150 students with dining capacity of about 150 students at a time.
As part of the inauguration programme, the Governor also led a tree plantation drive in the campus which was held under the theme "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam".
Addressing the gathering, Governor Acharya said that the IIITs have been at the forefront of technological education, fostering innovation, research, and development.
With the addition of such new facilities, IIIT Manipur will be able to provide an even more conducive environment for learning and growth for the students, he expressed and commended Manipur Police Housing Corporation (MPHC) and the builders.
Governor Acharya then encouraged the students to come up with entrepreneurship ideas which can withstand the winds of artificial intelligence.
He also exhorted the students of the institute, which was established in 2015 under PPP mode, to make most of the newly inaugurated infrastructures not only for nourishment of their bodies but also for intellectual enhancement and ensure that it becomes a sanctuary of knowledge, discipline and mutual respect.
He continued that the 15-month long violence has affected the people in many ways.
However, peace and normalcy is slowly being restored.
Efforts were made to ensure that the violence did not affect the students and that they were in a safe and secure atmosphere, he added.
Board of Governance, IIIT Manipur chairman Dr Sukhi Oraon and HIT Manipur director Prof Krishnan Baskar also attended the inaugural function among others.
