Man, teen go missing; sit-in staged

Imphal, October 13 2024:
Whereabouts of a mentally unsound man identified as Yumkhaibam Shanti (64) s/o (L) Yumkhaibam Akhamba of Uyumpok Awang Leikai, who is suspected to have inadvertently entered a Kuki village on the eastern side of Pukhao Terapur on October 8, remains unknown till Sunday.
In the wake of the missing person case, Uyumpok villagers staged a sit-in protest at the local multipurpose community hall on Sunday, urging the government to trace and safely hand over Shanti to his family.
During the sit-in, the protestors held placards inscribed with the slogans, "Save the lives of the people", "Manipur Government should look into the matter at earliest", and "Release Shanti safely without any conditions".
Speaking on the sidelines, one Heikrujam Ibohal recounted that Shanti, despite being asked to return by security forces after spotting him at Pukhao Dolaithabi around 11am on October 8, was seen moving towards the brick held located eastward of Pukhao Terapur village by some people working in the paddy held.
Beyond the brick held, there is a Kuki village called Sadang.
As such, it is suspected that he had crossed over to the village.
With the Meetei people nearby unable to find him due to the hostile situation amid the prevailing conflict, Ibohal appealed to the state government and state forces to search and safely hand over Shanti to his worried family members at the earliest, failing which intense agitations would be launched.
Meanwhile, one Ngangom Srinivas (18) of Khullakpat Mayai Leikai under Kumbi police station has gone missing after leaving his home on October 8 .
According to a press release issued by Kumbi PS OC, Srinivas is around 5.6 ft tall with cropped hair and oval face.
When he left the house, the teenager wore black jeans, a black and yellow joggers, and black shoes.
