RIMS activates advanced radiotherapy facilities

Imphal, January 13 2025:
Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, director Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma on Monday inaugurated three advanced radiotherapy equipment namely, the Equinox-100 Teletherapy, High-Dose Rate Brachytherapy, Conventional Simulator, and Manifold & Oxygen Pipeline System in the presence of medical superintendent Prof N Sanjib Singh, and Radiation Oncology Department professor Y Sobita Devi.
Apart from the inauguration programme, a workshop was also organised at the Department of Radiation Oncology, according to a RIMS Media Cell release.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof G Sunil described activation of the advanced facilities at the Department of Radiation Oncology as a significant step towards improving cancer care in the region, and expressed satisfaction on completion of the gas pipeline supply system as it would ensure direct access for patients, addressing long-pending needs.
He said introduction of the state-of-the-art Equinox 100, HDR Brachytherapy, and Conventional simulator, marks a milestone as the first of its kind in the state, while also adding that efforts are on to establish a comprehensive radiation oncology facility, including LINAC and CT simulators, with procurement processes expected to be completed within months.
The director also disclosed plans to upgrade RIMS to a tertiary care centre with a 150 bedded cancer hospital, stating that the same would serve not only Manipur but also neighbouring states and countries.
According to the director, recruitment processes have been streamlined under a centralised process by AIIMS Delhi, adding that outsourcing policy is aimed at addressing issues arising out of immediate manpower shortages, "The creation of new posts, though challenging, is being actively pursued to meet future demands," he said, highlighting RIMS' commitment to becoming a leading cancer treatment hub in Northeast India, equipped with advanced technology and skilled professionals.
The inauguration programme was also attended by RIMS deputy director (Admn), College of Nursing principal, heads of departments, faculty members, nursing officials, staff and students of RIMS .
