MLA Ibomcha hardsells local products

The five-day celebration of National Handloom Day jointly organised by Manipur Handloom arid Handicraft Development Corporation Limited, and Directorate of Handloom and Textiles concluded at Panthoibi Arcade, Wangkhei on Sunday.
Corporation chairman MLA Khongbantabam Ibomcha, managing director E Jiten and Weavers' Service Centre, Imphal deputy director Priyadarshi Daripa attended the valedictory ceremony as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
In his address, MLA Ibomcha highlighted the rich heritage of handloom and handicraft of the state and called for promoting the same.
Noting that handloom is an important sector in the state as many families rely on it to run their families, he recalled the Swadeshi movement of Mahatma Gandhi and appealed to all to use local handloom products as much as possible.
Regarding the on-going crisis in the state, the MLA opined that as people are committed to uphold the territorial integrity of the state, want the government authorities flush out illegal immigrants and implement NRC, and promote peaceful coexistence among the indigenous communities, the Central leaders should be made aware of the facts and ground realities in order to realise the objectives.
While appealing to the public to opt for democratic forms of agitation even if they are not satisfied with government policy and activities, if any, Ibomcha contended that the government is making consistent efforts to identify illegal immigrants and fence the border.
The MLA also launched products made by displaced people staying in different relief camps, which were collected by the corpora tion and marketed under its brand.
A warehouse inventory management web application was also launched on the occasion.
According to managing director E Jiten, the corporation collected the products made by the displaced people and rebrand them with value addition with the hope of resolving the issue of displaced people selling their products on roadsides.
Consumers may visit the corporation's office and buy these products, he said.
Jiten also said that the web application being launched has inventories of over 1500 products marketed by the corporation.
With the help of this application, salesmen can easily access information like availability of products, quantity and colours in stock among others thereby providing an easy selling-buying experience.
A quiz competition for students from class 8 to 10 on handloom and handicraft was also organised as part of the event followed by felicitation of the winners with certificates and cash prizes.
