Imphal, March 11 2025:
To promote the publication of high-quality research articles, theses and dissertations, the Turnitin Plagiarism Detection Software was launched at the Manipur University Central Library on Tuesday.
The launch event also marked the inauguration of Library Patron Traffic Counter, Centre for Manipur Studies, and Dattopant Thengadi National Board for Workers Education & Development (DTNBWED).
The function was attended by vice chancellor professor N Lokendra as chief guest, while MU librarian in-charge professor Ch Ibohal Singh, School of Social Sciences dean professor Memcha Loitongbam, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) director professor A Rajmani Singha and registrar professor W Chandbabu were the guests of honour.
Speaking at the event, professor Ch Ibohal explained that "Turnitin" is an essential software used internationally to detect plagiarism.
He noted that in academic and research work, there is an increasing trend of copying from other sources and presenting it as one's own, which has led to growing discussions on research and publication ethics.
Ibohal further highlighted that with the rise of artificial intelligence, it is now possible to generate text that can be passed off as original.
To address this issue, Manipur University, as one of the leading institutions, is taking proactive measures to assess the similarity levels between academic writings of both students and faculty, as well as AI-generated content.
To promote the production of high-quality research articles, theses, and dissertations, the Turnitin Plagiarism Detection Software has been launched, he maintained.
The professor further informed that the Library Patron Traffic Counter has been inaugurated to record the entry and exit of the research scholars and faculty members after showing their ID cards.
