Senapati, June 10 2025:
In line with objectives of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) and as a proactive response to the growing vulnerabilities posed by challenging terrains, changing climate conditions with floods and other domestic injuries or health emergencies, Mount Everest College (MEC), Senapati, conducted a comprehensive First Aid Training Programme.
The event was jointly organised by the Value Added Course (VAC) Cell and the B Ed Department of the college.
The training served both as a teaching-learning component under the B Ed and VAC curriculum, aligned with NEP 2020, and as a disaster preparedness initiative to equip students and staff with essential life-saving skills.

The event was held with MEC president Dr V Alexander Pao as the special guest, in the presence of the college principal, faculty members and students from various departments.
Two medical professionals - and also alumni of the institution - Dr James Pao, senior medical officer, Senapati, and Dr Veijohne Vemai, were the resource persons for the session.
The interactive training covered a range of critical first aid topics, including the management of bites and stings (such as dog or cat bites, snake bites, and bee stings), response to choking incidents, treatment of diarrhoea and food poisoning using ORS, drowning rescue techniques, CPR for stroke and cardiac arrest, emergency care for burn injuries, and identification and management of allergic reactions and anaphylaxis.
Additionally, participants learned how to deal with heat exhaustion, fainting, nosebleeds, and wounds, as well as how to handle seizures and provide basic care.
The session also introduced the contents and use of a basic first aid kit.
The participants actively engaged in hands-on demonstrations and simulations, ensuring practical understanding and application of the techniques taught.
The session emphasised the importance of immediate response during medical emergencies, especially in areas with delayed access to professional healthcare services.
The initiative was lauded as a step forward in holistic education and community preparedness, fulfilling the interdisciplinary and skillbased learning approach advocated by the NEP 2020.Mount Everest College continues to stand at the forefront of empowering students not only academically but also through real-life practical training that fosters social responsibility, safety awareness, and resilience among its stakeholders.
