Civil defence mock drill conducted

The district administration successfully conducted a civil defence mock drill "Operation Abhyaas" on Wednesday at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Tuinom, Churachandpur.
The drill was organised as part of a nationwide initiative under the Civil Defence Rules, 1968, aimed at testing the district's readiness to respond to air raid scenarios and other emergencies.
The simulation brought together the Police, Fire Services, Assam Rifles, Health Department, Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL), NCC, NSS, NYK, and students from local educational institutions.
District level officers, dignitaries from the armed forces, NCC representatives, line officers, and staff from various departments attended the drill, reinforcing the significance of coordinated emergency response efforts.
Speaking at the event, deputy commissioner Dharun Kumar S highlighted the importance of such exercises in enhancing public confidence and preparedness.
"While the nation faces various challenges, it is the resolve and calmness of the people that will support our forces," he said.
The DC reassured the public that the drill was not intended to cause alarm but to strengthen coordination and readiness in times of crisis.
The drill included air raid sirens, public safety broadcasts, blackout protocols, emergency response deployments, search and rescue operations, and the establishment of temporary medical facilities.
Civilians also received hands-on training in basic safety measures to follow during hostile situations.
Officials and dignitaries from several government departments and the armed forces were also in attendance, underlining the importance of inter-agency collaboration in civil defence.
