Imphal, March 06 2025:
All India State Government Employees' Federation general secretary A Sreekumar Nair has stated that the privatisation of all public sector undertakings (PSUs) by the government, employing people on contract basis instead of regular appointment and outsourcing work, is amplifying problem of unemployment in the country.
Sreekumar, who arrived here on Wednesday for a three-day state visit, addressed the media at office of Manipur State Pensioners Union, Pishumthong on Thursday.
He said the NDA government is focused on privatising all PSUs.
Based on this policy, government departments have been downsized, filling up vacant posts on contract basis or outsourcing them, which is robbing the unemployed youths of opportunities.
Although India is the fifth largest economy in the world, the living standard of the people are degrading day-by-day, not to mention the rising unemployment rate and inflation.
Sreekumar then said that it is important the educated youths are employed appropriately and as such, urged for regular appointments in government departments instead of hiring people on contract basis.
Manipur Government Service Federation senior vice president L Sarat informed that the issues faced by the state government employees would be discussed in detailed with AISGEF general secretary A Sreekumar Nair and later, taken up at the NEC meeting in Udaipur on April 6 .
Stating that as Minimum Wages Act has been revised and would be implemented soon, he called on all to inform the Federation if they have not been paid the minimum wage.
He informed that consultation is being held for implementing the 8th pay commission, while adding that the government will be urged to publish a compendium on effective implementation of Service Rules in the state and to halt all unreasonable service extension.
