Body seeks cut in flight fare

Following the government's recent announcement for reducing flight fares from Manipur to Dimapur, Guwahati , and Kolkata on specific days of the week, Athoubasing Gee Liklam Thiba Lup has urged the state government to decrease fares for the Imphal-Silchar route as well.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Friday, Lup advisor Shantikumar Sharma referred chief minister N Biren Singh's announcement on eve of the New Year that the government would collaborate with Alliance Air to offer reduced flight fares, up to Rs 5000, for travel from Imphal to Dimapur, Guwahati, and Kolkata on certain days of the week, considering disruptions along two national highways in the state.

Shantikumar added that, in addition to these routes, the chief minister should also ensure reduction in fares for the Imphal-Silchar route, considering that over two lakh Meetei people reside in the Barak Valley of Cachar district in Assam.
He urged the chief minister to work with Alliance Air to bring the fare for this route down to around Rs 1000.Shantikumar also called on the state government to take necessary steps to maintain peace in the region by deploying additional security forces along both the national highways.
