MU VC stresses alumni bodies to aid current students

Manipur University vice-chancellor Prof N Lokendra has emphasised the importance of forming alumni bodies in various departments to support current students in education and creating job opportunities.
In his address, as chief guest of the Ruby Jubilee celebration of the University's Department of Commerce and Association of Commerce Alumni at the Jubilee Hall on Monday, Prof Lokendra acknowledged the contributions made by the department of commerce and its faculty members.
He noted that several former students are working in various capacities at different institutions while reiterating the need for forming alumni body to guide the current students' academic and career aspirations.
Prof Lokendra highlighted that such practices are prevalent in universities in developed countries and that technological advancements should be leveraged to enhance these efforts.
He urged alumni to actively participate in promoting the university and supporting its students by guiding them in further studies or job placements, including opportunities in foreign institutions.
The event was also attended by SOA University, Odisha's Pro-VC Prof BB Pradhan, Association of Commerce Alumni Manipur University president Dr O Deepak Kumar, and head of the commerce department Prof N Tejmani as presidium members.
Faculty members, students, and alumni attended the celebration.
A souvenir and a journal titled 'Kangleipak Business Review' were released to mark the occasion.
Additionally, 40 alumni members planted 40 saplings to commemorate the department's 40th anniversary.
