Womenfolk protest harassment of Thayong Kom VA members

Imphal, March 01 2025: Denouncing the abduction and harassment of Thayong Kom Village Authority members by cadres of Komren Region GPRN, womenfolk staged a sit-in protest at Thayong Community Hall under Lamlai Assembly Constituency today.

Speaking to media persons, one Mangte Angel Kom said that on February 19, 2025, the secretary along with two other members of the Thayong Kom Village Authority (VA) were invited for a meeting by Komren Region GPRN.

She alleged that cadres of Komren Region GPRN detained the three VA members and demanded ransom for their safe release.

"VA members have been facing rampant extortion, harassment and unbearable monetary demands from the cadres.

People are now afraid to become a member of VA", she claimed.

Another villager, Mangte Florence Kom strongly condemned the imposition of unbearable monetary demands on VA members and urged all to stop harassing the villagers.

At the sit-in, the womenfolk shouted slogans and displayed placards with the writings such as, "Stop harassing innocent villagers of Thayong" "We want peace", "Stop extortion", "We condemn supersight", etc .
