JAC warns of halting NH-2 road project

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of NH-2 Expansion Affected Land Owners warned of halting all works related to expansion of the National Highway-2 from February 4 if the Imphal West district administration and Competent Authority of Land Acquisition (CALA), Imphal West do not take steps to honour demands of land owners affected by NH-2 expansion.
Demands of the JAC include early completion of arbitration process for increment of land value, early completion of allotment already initiated by the Imphal West deputy commissioner, early disbursement of compensation to leftover affected land owners and early solution to individual complaints for timely disbursement of the approved compensation amount.
Urging the Imphal West DC and CALA to fulfil the demands within February 3, the JAC warned that all NH-2 expansion works would be obstructed from February 4 .
Meanwhile, briefing the media af Manipur Press Club on Saturday, JAC secretary Parikhomba Khomdram recounted that in 2022, the Manipur High Court had directed for holding an arbitration with regard to increasing the price of the land acquired by the governmeht for the highway expansion work.
Accordingly, an arbitrator was appointed and the process initiated.
However, the arbitration process is yet to be concluded.
As such, he urged for expediting the pending process and award appropriate compensation to the affected land owners.
He further urged for concluding the allotment process initiated by the Competent Authority of Land Execution, Imphal West and requested for returning the amount depreciated in the structure-building compensation to the respective landowners, while also compensating those initially left behind and resolving all individual complaints for timely and reasonable compensation.
He also cautioned of halting the expansion works under the jurisdiction of the JAC from February 4 onwards if no positive response is given by the competent authorities by February 3.Any unwanted incidents arising out of the public agitation should be the responsibility of the ruling government and Imphal West DC, he maintained.
