Imphal, March 31 2022:
Association of Professional Social Workers, Manipur (APSWM) president S Saratkumar has revealed that a proposal has been sent to the Union ministry for opening family counselling centre in every district of Manipur and state family welfare department has been apprised about the proposal.
Saratkumar made this revelation this during World Social Work Day observance organised by APSWM under the theme 'Co-building a new eco-social world: Leaving no one behind' at Manipur Press Club here on Thursday.
In his speech, Saratkumar said that various countries are celebrating the entire month of March as World Social Work Day following the declaration made by the United Nations and APSWM has been commemorating the same every year.
The main objective of celebrating World Social Work Day is to make the people aware about social work properly.
Many social workers are present in Manipur but professional social worker is different from them as the latter requires certain qualification like Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or Master of Social Work (MSW), he said, adding that BSW/MSW study on how to tackle problems faced by humans from childhood to old age.
According to Saratkumar, APSWM has been taking up different programmes and providing one month's training to Anganwadi workers under Integrated Child Development Scheme.
The association also opens family counselling centres in Imphal West and Imphal East police stations.
