Imphal, July 30 2024:
The Pambei-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF) said it is all set to take stringent disciplinary action against party members involved in the recent untoward incident that took place on July 26 at Ocean Lounge, Khuman Lampak, where they breached the modesty of one Tangkhul sister.
According to a statement of the Pambei-led UNLF issued by media coordinator Charairong-ba Thokchom, the unfortunate incident was against the very principle of the party's high respect for dignity and integrity of Manipuri women and hence the party will seriously deal the matter.
While naming the four members involved incident as Thounaojam Gopen, Naorem Ningthouremba, Arambam Tom and Laishram Dishnikumar, the statement said all of them are local sympathisers and untrained members.
It also said that an investigation team of UNLF started swift investigation on the matter.
All involved in the incident were drunk and one among them grabbed the woman's hand who was working in the lounge and verbally assaulted her.
Feeling helpless at the situation, the woman tried to seek help from her near ones and seven other persons who came to help the woman had a fight with the four members.
Several amongst them were injured in the ensuing brawl.
It can be confirmed that the unfortunate incident happened as the members failed to abide by the rules and principles of the party by using intoxicants and so disciplinary actions will be taken up against them.
The sad part was that illegal liquors are available at a lounge in the heart of Imphal city, the statement said.
While acknowledging and sharing the pain and suffering of fellow Naga brothers and sisters in the wake of the incident, the UNLF said that the members have not committed such crime by targeting a particularly community.
The party assures to avoid such unwanted incidents in future, said the statement.
