Imphal, October 29 2024:
Enlighten Knowledge (EK) higher secondary school secretary P Saratchandra has been released on bail Tuesday after arrest in connection with a case registered at Heingang police station.
Saratchandra was summoned by Heingang police station on Monday after a complaint was lodged against him in connection with disciplining a student of EK higher secondary school.
However, police arrested Saratchandra under the provisions of Section 303 (2), 304 (2), 314 of BNS and Juvenile Justice Act.
Saratchandra was produced before the court of CJM, Imphal East at Lamphel court complex on Tuesday and the court granted him bail.
Prior to his release, students and ex-students of the school staged protest against the arrest inside the school campus.
A student informed media persons on the sideline of the protest that secretary P Saratchandra warned a class XII male student, who came to school wearing a single odd-looking rapid like gold on one ear, to remove the gold jewellery and come to school.
However, the student defied the warning and came to the school without removing the gold jewellery.
As such, Saratchandra disciplined the student and the jewellery was removed by the student himself, the student said and condemned the attempt to misinterpret disciplining of students.
After the court granted bail, P Saratchandra came to the school and met students and teachers of the school while students welcomed him by raising slogans.
