Imphal, October 28 2024:
Keirao MLA L Rameshwar, who is also the PDA chairman, has brought to the fore the crucial role of women folk in shaping the future of Manipur, amidst the current challenges the state is facing.
Speaking as chief guest at the 40th foundation day celebration of All Kyamgei Nupi Chaokhat Lup held at its Kyamgei Mamang Leikai office on Monday, MLA Rameshwar acknowledged that contributions of Manipuri women are recognised globally and commended the womenfolk for playing a vital role in addressing the distressful situation in the state.
Since the time of Nupi Lal till the present crisis, women of Manipur have been playing a crucial role in upholding integrity of the state, he recalled.
Notably, the "Eyong Phee," worn by Manipuri women, is one of the largest textile products in the world.
"If this "Eyong Phee" were imported from outside the state, it would have resulted in a significant financial loss for Manipur with huge amounts of money drained outside the state.
Given these factors, it is essential to encourage and support the women of the state in their endeavours," he maintained.
Regarding development projects in Kyamgei, the MLA announced that the construction of the ring road will commence from Kyamgei.
Sites for worker accommodations for the ring road project have already been designated, and work will begin shortly.
In addition, plans are underway to construct a women's market in Kyamgei along with a tourist spot.
Efforts to conserve and protect Leis-hang Hiden have also been initiated.
In her address, All Kyamgei Nupi Chaokhat Lup president M Sobita stated that although the organisation established by the women of Kyamgei had faced challenges in the past, the current members are contributing their mite in strengthening the Lup.
The organisation has been actively involved in the efforts of the Meira Paibi groups in Kyamgei area during this crisis and will continue to do so in future, she affirmed.
The celebration was also attended by All Kyamgei Nupi Chaokhat Lup chief advisor Th Vanish, among others.
