Imphal, September 28 2024:
Security barricades installed on National Highway (NH) and other key roads across Imphal and other urban areas of the state are raising concerns over the safety of commuters.
While all these barricades have been installed by the state police in response to the ongoing law and order situation, they are causing significant disruptions to daily traffic movement and posing life-threatening risks.
On Friday night, a tragic accident occurred when two individuals on a scooter collided with a barricade placed in front of Kwakeithel police outpost.
The accident claimed one life and left the other rider seriously injured.
Similar barricades are placed at various locations, including Singjamei police station and the under-construction Manipur Police Headquarters in Mantripukhri, creating severe inconvenience for the public, particularly during emergencies.
The presence of these barricades, while meant to enhance security, has sparked concerns about their impact on public safety and mobility.
Many residents feel the excessive number of roadblocks adds to a growing sense of insecurity and uncertainty.
