1st Tadui Tako festival celebrated

The first Tadui Tako Festival was celebrated at Thonglang Akutpa village and Zaimeng lake in Kangpokpi district on Friday.
Kangpokpi DC Mahesh Hiralal Chaudhuri was chief guest of the first session of the festival while Zaimeng Joint Development Committee president MK Somi was the functional president.
The event jointly organised by Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, and Zaimeng Joint Development Committee was also attended by Liangmai Naga Council, president R Machundoubou as special guest while Thonglang Atongba chief Ch Karambou and Chawangkining chief Ch Wisobou were guests of honour.
Speaking at the event, Kangpokpi DC Mahesh Chaudhuri commended conduct of such festivals, assured to extend all possible help from the district administration in preserving nature and Himalayan Crocodile Newt, and encouraged the villagers to approach the.
district administration for any problem they face to work out solution.
As resource person of the second session, assistant professor Dr Soreiphy Mungkung of Asufii Christian Institute, Punanamei, Mao delivered a lecture on the present status and prospects of Himalayan Crocodile Newt (Tadui Tako) conservation.
He highlighted the importance and value of the amphibian which is not found in other places of the district or state except at Thonglang Akutpa village and Zaimeng lake.
Subject Matter Specialist of KVK, Hengbung Dr David Kamei was another resource person who spoke at the session.
Traditional dances by villagers were showcased as part of the festival.
