Koireng-led UNLF greets people on 60th raising day

Imphal, November 25 2024:

contd from previous issue

Over the past 70 years, India's approach to Manipur has undergone notable changes, with the current strategy primarily focusing on political, military, and economic suppression of Manipur, according to the annual statement of the Central Committee of the Koireng-led UNLF.

Additionally, the India has been scheming to obliterate the culture, tradition and identity of Manipur and assimilate the natives with mainland Indians.

However, revolutionary organisations have been fighting such policies together with the people from time to time, it said.

"The most dangerous strategy to suppress revolutionary movement unfolded on May 3, 2023 when India waged a proxy war using armed Kuki mercenaries against Meetei community to balkanise Manipur.

One undeniable proof of the proxy war was declaration of buffer/red zones in the adjoining areas of the valley and the hills, deployment of thousands of Indian armed forces who are only happy to carry out search operations in the valley while remaining mute spectators to relentless attacks launched by armed Kukis from the hills towards innocent people of the valley" .

The statement also claimed that the way India sees the Meeteis was clearly evident in the recent re-imposition of AFSPA in areas under six police stations including Jiri which are facing repetitive attacks by armed Kukis.

"Designed and sponsored by India, armed Kukis targeted Meeteis and thus India successfully created a Kuki-Meetei ethnic bloodshed, destroying economy of Manipur," it continued, while calling it a strategy of India to destroy the very historical foundation of Manipur laid by brave forefathers with blood and sacrifice.

"It is an open secret that thousands Indian forces deployed in the hill areas are engaged in instigating and helping the mercenary Kukis against the Meeteis," the annual statement said, alleging it as a part of India's counter insurgency strategy to suppress liberation movement of Manipur by rupturing the hill-valley relationship particularly between the Kukis and Meeteis.

It further claimed that the main objective of India's ultimate strategy of divide and destroy is to hijack the struggle to regain the lost sovereignty Manipur with the India-created Kuki-Meetei ethnic bloodshed so as to divert attention of the international fraternity from the Manipur-India conflict.

Another objective is to break apart Manipur, the forerunner in many fields in WESEA, and to destroy the backbone of the Meeteis who shouldered the main responsibility in building the foundation of Manipur, it alleged, adding that destruction of the historical legacy of Manipur's existence as a sovereign and independent kingdom is another objective of India's newest and ultimate strategy.

"The collective historical legacy indeed is the source of Manipuri national character in standing up to challenge India and India knows very well that the historical legacy is a permanent strength of Manipur and the Meeteis".

Stressing the need for forging unity and faith among indigenous people and communities of Manipur by understanding collectively the historical necessity of inter-dependent coexistence, the Koireng-led UNLF said unified strength of the people could defeat India's covert and overt plans to suppress the liberation struggle.

According to the annual statement, the Kuki-Meetei bloodbath happened at the time when revolutionary groups fighting to restore the lost sovereignty of Manipur were at their lowest ebb with opportunists either surrendering individually or signing peace treaties.

To fulfil their objective, India signed Suspension of Operations (SoO) with armed Kukis, who were utilised in forcing out UNLF/MPA from hill area, in 2008 and raised them in camps of Indian forces.

As per the ground rules, all cadres of Kuki SoO groups are to surrender arms at designated camps but Indian forces are playing deaf and dumb to extortions by SoO groups from public and on highways.

From May 3, 2023 onwards, cadres of SoO groups began to target innocent Meetei villagers in fringe areas but Indian forces remained as silent spectators to such attacks using sophisticated weapons and bombs and people were witness to inaction of Indian forces.

Inaction of Indian forces against SoO cadres in the more than one and half years of Kuki-Meetei bloodbath has made it clear that the present ethnic conflict was designed and created by India intentionally and it is a huge win for India's suppressive administration in Manipur, the Central Committee said in the annual statement.

It also asked if the success was due to India's intelligence scheming divide and rule policy on indigenous communities or whether Kuki-Meetei conflict is protracting due to lack of state administrators loyal to their Delhi owners.
