Training on livestock farming, insurance conducted

A training programme for farmers on "Poultry Management, Scientific Rearing of Pig, and Livestock Insurance" was organised by District Veterinary Office, Thoubal/Kakching under the sponsorship of National Livestock Mission (NLM) at Thoubal Achouba Keithel community hall, on Friday.
The inaugural function of the training programme was attended by SAI, Imphal retired assistant director Konsam Michael, Veterinary Department former joint director Dr Maibam Rajendra and retired district transport officer Mutum Mani as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Konsam Michael called upon the farmers to take advantage of the various schemes launched by both the state and central governments, which are designed to boost their income.
He stressed that achieving self-sufficiency in Manipur should not rely solely on government departments.
Instead, clubs, organisations and elected representatives must ensure effective and judicious implementation of the government schemes.
District Veterinary Office, Thoubal joint director Dr P Gojendro, said that the farming community need not worry about loss of livestock due to natural calamities or disease outbreak as there are insurance which cover such calamities.
The training programme has been organised to make the farmers aware of such benefits available for them, he added.
Retired specialist poultry Dr Kh Somendro Singh, Serou Veterinary Hospital veterinary officer Dr Y Geeta Devi and Heirok Veterinary Hospital veterinary officer Dr Y Sovarani Devi spoke on different topics as resource persons during the training programme, which was attended by around 200 farmers.
