Teachers briefed on JJS, Child Marriage Act

As part of an ongoing initiative, an awareness cum sensitisation programme on the Juvenile Justice System and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, Was conducted for teachers of Kakching district at Kakching Khunou Government High School on Thursday.
The programme organised by District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Kakching with the support of Kakching district administration was attended by Kakching Khunou High School headmistress Chingakham Landhoni Devi as president, while State Child Protection Society (SCPS) programme officer Mala Lisham and DCPU legal-cum-probation officer M Robindro respectively spoke on the topics "Juvenile Justice System Overview" and "Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006" as the resource persons.
Delivering the key note address, district child protection officer, Kakching, Gajoo Rajkumari said that the main role of the DCPU is to provide protection to children.
Exhorting all concerned to contribute their mite in protecting the children, who are the future pillars of the society, she also pointed out that there are various laws for protection and welfare of children up to the age of 18 years in addition to government sponsored welfare schemes for children.
"Teachers who are always close with the students need to be sensitised on the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006," she stressed.
Gajo Rajkumari further stated that 50 teachers each from Langmeidong, Keirak and Pangaltabi clusters in Kakching district have been selected to participate in the programme.
