Koireng-led UNLF duo arrested; arms recovered

Imphal, February 23 2025:
Security forces have arrested two active cadres of the Koireng-led UNLF along with recovering cache of arms and ammunition during search operations.
According to a press release of Police Control'Room, a combined team of Manipur police and Assam Rifles arrested two cadres of the Kpireng-led UNLF namely Wangkhem Rohit Singh (18) and Thangjam Nongan Meetei (18) from New Keithelmanbi area on Saturday.
Two mobiles phones were also seized from the possession of the two involved in extortion activities from public, shops and transport vehicles, said the release.

Meanwhile, in follow-up measures related to arrest of six cadres of KCP (Ibungo Ngangom) some days back, three SBBL gun and 22 12 bore cartridges were recovered from Koutruk Makha Leikai Church on Saturday.
Security forces also conducted search operation at Phunal Maring village under Irilbung police station recovering two 36 HE hand grenades, five 9mm pistols, one SMG carbine marked 'CT05' (without magazine, pistol grip and bridge block), five .303 rounds, four 7.62 mm AK rounds, one single bore barrel gun, two detonators, one Baofeng radio set, a country-made machine gun with magazine, two .22 live rounds and five anti-riot shells.
Security forces also recovered a country-made lath-ode, eight IEDs, three 'Pompi' shells and three Baofeng radio sets from Leibi Khunou under Moreh police station, Tengnoupal district on Saturday.
On the other hand, two illegal bunkers located between L Munlai to Haoraothel village under Leimakhong police station, Kangpokpi district, were dismantled on Saturday while a combined team of 2 Mahar Regiment, A Coy 58 CRPF and Churachandpur district police conducted search operation in Langza area under Churachandpur police station from 4:30 am to 10:15 am on Sunday.
According to the police report, the team recovered one .303 rifle with magazine, three country made single barrel guns, one high trajectory modified 81 mm mortar (Pumpi), 500 gm black-coloured IED, 500 gm red-coloured IED, 1 kg black coloured IED, three .303 modified live rounds, one country-made 81 mm mortar, three country made improvised bombs and three improvised 'Pumpi' ammunition.
