A 'JAC against the brutal murder of Khulakpam Seema Shah', has been formed and Seema's husband, Mujibur Rahman taken into custody by the police.
On Sunday, Young Star Sporting Union and Keikhu Muslim Meira Paibi staged a sit-in protest at Keikhu community hall in connection with the death.
Speaking on the sidelines, the victim's niece Sarika Sultana informed that Seema and her husband Mujibur stayed at a two-storeyed home with their two daughters.
The couple stayed in one room while their daughters used another.
On the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, Mujibur shouted that a burglar had barged into the residence, alerting the neighbours.
When the neighbours arrived, they saw Mujibur cradling Seema, whose throat seemed to have been slit by a sharp object.
She was immediately rushed to Advanced Kripadarshini Hospital but succumbed to the injury on the way.
According to Mujibur, he saw an unidentified person with a lean frame, and clad in black attire inside their room.
He immediately raised an alarm and the person jumped down 13ft to the ground and fled in the darkness.
He then went to wake up his wife but found her throat slit and in serious condition.
A team of police along forensic science experts arrived at the scene and conducted preliminary investigations, while the body had been deposited to JNIMS morgue, Sarika conveyed.
Meanwhile, the people of Seema's parental home in Khergao Thambalkhong held a public meeting on Sunday, and formed the JAC against the brutal murder of Khul-lakpam Seema Shah with SA Malik as the convenor.
During the meeting, several resolutions were adopted.
They included urging the authorities to thoroughly investigate the case and punished the culprit(s) responsible, not to claim the body until the truth is revealed, and to launch democratic protests with CSOs, clubs and Meira Paibis if the authorities failed to produce the murderer(s) within 48 hours.
Meanwhile, Porompat PS has registered a case in regard to the death.
The police are yet to identify or recover the weapon used to slit Seema's throat.
However, they picked up her husband Mujibur as part of the investigation.
