Imphal, May 22 2025:
The Women's Wing of Coordinating Committee On Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) on Thursday declared that it has no trust in the inquiry committee constituted by the state government and vowed to continue its agitation until the truth behind the recent incident involving harassment of journalists and removal of the word "Manipur" from a state transport bus is made public.
Speaking to the media at COCOMI's Lamphelpat office, Wing convenor RK Tharaksana maintained that forcing the removal of the word "Manipur" from a Manipur State Transport bus heading to the Shirui Lily Festival in Ukhrul and harassingjournalists on board was not only an insult but also an act of challenging the people and identity of the state.
She asserted that the Governor, security advisor, chief secretary and DGP must bear responsibility for the incident.
She demanded that the government disclose under whose orders the Mahar Regiment carried out the act and what agenda it was serving.
She questioned whether the inquiry committee has the authority to take action against the Indian Army, Governor, security advisor, chief secretary and the DGP, adding that the panel is not trustworthy.
She also recalled that the union home minister had assured free movement across the state from March 8, but the assurance has failed to translate into ground reality.
COCOMI will not compromise on the recent incident, she said and urged authorities to elaborate on the matter in the public domain.
She further said that the people of the state are be ginning to lose faith in the administration under President's Rule and accused the union government of maintaining double standards in its stance against terrorism.
