Thoubal, August 21 2024:
The water levels of various rivers flowing through Thoubal district have gradually receded, although many houses, paddy fields and fish farms are still submerged due to continuous rainfall in the past few days.
Flood water that submerged many houses in Kairembikhok Mamang Leikai, Mayai Leikai, and Awang Leikai due to overflowing of Nongdambi River, which flows through Kairembikhok village in Wangjing Tentha assembly constituency of Thoubal district, has been drained using earth excavators and trucks.
However, passage of vehicles in the area is still not possible, preventing school vans from entering the village and causing students to miss classes.
Additionally, the only government school in the area remains closed due to flooding.
Meanwhile, social worker Ksh Priyobrata.
along with local residents, has been working hard since Tuesday to block entry of floodwater.
They deployed earth excavators and trucks and opened the shutters of the dam constructed over Nongdambi River, leading to a gradual receding of the river's water level.
On the other hand, floodwater has increased the water level of Loushipat, causing houses in the area to submerge.
To ensure safety, members of Ningshing Lup have prepared safe places for the affected residents.
