Windstorm destroys school, houses in Tamenglong

Imphal, February 20 2025:
A strong windstorm swept across Tamenglong district on Tuesday night, causing significant damage in Tousem sub-division.
Though no casualties were reported, strong gusts destroyed the building of Wisdom English School, a private co-educational institution.
The school, which serves students from various villages, suffered extensive damage, with at least eight classrooms completely destroyed.
Founder and principal Dr GN Aku confirmed that strong winds destroyed eight classrooms, though there were no casualties.
He added that reconstruction efforts could take at least a week due to the severity of the damage.
Dr Aku also highlighted the school's commitment to providing quality education to rural and underprivileged students despite various challenges and urged the public to keep the institution and its students in their prayers as they work towards rebuilding it.
The school currently has 220 students from Class 1 to Class 10 .
Meanwhile, Tousem village authority secretary Tuabuing described the windstorm as extremely strong, reporting that apart from the school, several private houses in the sub-divisional headquarters were also damaged.
Residents are now assessing the extent of the losses as they initiated recovery efforts, he added.
