Imphal, March 19 2023:
Upon receiving information about filling up of agricultural land in Khabam Chumbreithong village no.5 by some individuals, representatives of LOUSAL rushed to assess the activities on Sunday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the inspection, LOUSAL president Mutum Churamani enquired whether construction of artificial football turfs on agricultural land is for love of players or deceptive tactics adopted by wealthy individuals to earn thicken their bank balance.
Though top officials of departments concerned are the architect of laws framed to preserve the existing agricultural land and prohibition imposed against use of prime paddy land for non-agricultural purposes, there has been a disturbing trend of making the subordinate staffers scapegoats as and when irregularities are exposed, he said.
Churamani also asked the government to take up appropriate action according to the Act meant for protection of agricultural lands.
A representative of Local Level Committee who was present during the inspection declared that no one can fill up agricultural lands in Chumbreithong village no.5 and all such activities have been banned.
