Imphal, November 17 2024:
Sugnu MLA and deputy leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Kangujam Ranjit has appealed to BJP MLAs, who are rumoured to be preparing to tender resignation at individual level, to keep their plans on hold for now and instead wait for en masse resignation of both Ruling and Opposition MLAs after showing the power of being elected representatives of the people of the state to Centre.
Ranjit told some media persons at his official residence at Babupara Sunday that all the five-Congress MLAs sitting in the Opposition bench of the state assembly agreed whatever the state government did to bring back peace and normalcy in the state, both inside and outside the assembly.
Amidst the volatile situation in the state after the Jiribam incident, some BJP MLAs are reported to be planning resignation at individual level.
Urging the BJP MLAs not to resign as of now, Ranjit suggested en masse resignation of both the Ruling and Opposition MLAs after showing collectively to the Government of India of the power they were conferred by the people of Manipur.
Even as the violence lingers for more than 18 months, the Centre remains mute but elected representatives of the state could showcase their unity and power, Ranjit said and suggested seeking appointment for meeting the Prime Minister.
Even if the appointment is not granted, both the Ruling and Opposition MLAs could stage protest outside the PMO, he said adding that state MLAs could resign en masse in a noble manner in case PMO rejects appointment even in such situation.
