Lai Haraoba ritual held in Mandalay

The annual Lai Haraoba ritual of Ima Leimarel Sidabi was held on Sunday at Yea Chi Pauk village in Amarapura Township, Mandalay region, Myanmar.
The event had participation of a large number of Meetei community residents in Mandalay.
In a statement, Federation of Indigenous People's Democratic Movement (FIDM) said that it along with Myanmar Meetei Development Association (MMDA) and Iputhou Pakhangba Lainingkol, Mandalay organised the festival highlighting the rich cultural traditions of the Meetei community.
The organisers expressed their desire to invite the titular king of Manipur, Leishem-ba Sanajaoba, to next year's festival.
Sharing the hardships suffered by the people of Manipur amidst ongoing conflicts, the Meetei people in Mandalay offered prayers for peace and normalcy to return in the region, the statement said.
Additionally, FIDM called upon the government to recognise Sanamahi religion as a religious minority, underscoring the cultural and religious significance of the community.
