Forum rejects low bids for Shangshak-Tengnoupal road

Imphal, April 12 2025: United Senior Citizens Forum, 43 Phungyar AC secretary David Zimik has warned that the forum will oppose construction of Shangshak-Tengnoupal road if work order for the project is granted to any firm/company bidding below the scheduled rate during the tender process.

Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, David Zimik said that the authorities of 25 villages situated along the 170 km long Shangshak-Tengnoupal road are elated over the sanctioning of a project for improvement and widening of the road neglected for over 50 years.

He mentioned that the enhancement of the road would boost the economic activities of the villagers, but warned that the road's longevity would be compromised if quality control is not upheld.

Consequently, the United Senior Citizens Forum, 43 Phungyar, decided to oppose the project if it is awarded to a firm or company that bids below the scheduled rate during the tender process, he said.

"There will be no quality if the road project is awarded to a firm/company bidding below the scheduled rate as it is natural for firms/companies securing the tender to seek profit," David Zimik said and appealed to the authorities concerned to award the project to a competent firm/company.

He also said that villagers will raise the matter to the Governor, Union Transport minister and relevant authorities of the state government.

Lairam Khullen village (Kasom Khullen sub-disivion) chief Zazo also expressed regret over construction companies bidding tender for road projects in the hills below the scheduled rates, while noting that this practice has become common particularly in hill areas of the state.

"Villagers will oppose Shangshak-Tengnoupal road construction if tender for the project is awarded to a firm/company bidding below scheduled rate during tender process," he warned.
